Breathe Easier. Clara is here.

  • WHERE IS CLARA MADE?

Clara was designed, engineered and is manufactured in the USA.  Our HEPA filter is also manufactured in the USA.

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLARA 1 AND CLARA 2?

Clara 1 has one HEPA filter to clean the air you breathe in only.  This is for individual or consumer use.

Clara 2 has two HEPA filters to clean both the air you breathe in and the air you breathe out.  This is recommended for medical, dental professionals and those caring for elderly or elevated health risk individuals.

  • HOW MANY SIZES ARE THERE FOR THE MASK ?

We offer four sizes: extra-small, small, medium and large. We offer a digital fit kit measure your face on the app to determine your size. The Clara Mask is a custom fit with a silicone gasket for an airtight seal against your face, to prevent leakage and to be comfortable all day long.

  • IS THE CLARA MASK ADJUSTABLE ?

Yes, the tension on the mask can be adjusted on the upper head strap and optional lower neck strap. Clara was designed with ratchets on both sides of the mask allow you to micro-adjust more or less pressure on either your nose or chin for optimal fit and comfort.

  • CAN I WEAR MY GLASSES, PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR OR LOUPES WITH CLARA?

Yes, the Clara mask was designed specifically to allow for eyewear, eye protection and/or loupes comfortably. The top of the Clara mask fits comfortably at the mid-point (not top) of your nose, which allows you to fit eyewear easily. And your eyewear will not fog because the Clara fit is airtight.

  • DOES THE CLARA MASK FOG ?

Typically, Clara does not fog. Because of patented cross-ventilation there is always fresh air passing through the mask from one side to the other.  This system reduces both carbon dioxide and moisture build up.

  • HOW DOES THE CROSS-VENTILATION WORK IN THE CLARA2 MASK ?

The Clara Mask has two valves.  The clean air intake valve opens when breathing fresh air.  It then closes and the exhaust air valve on the opposite side of the Clara mask then opens to release CO2 expired respiration. This patented cross-ventilation process helps to reduce fogging, CO2 and moisture build up, and is one of the unique advantages of the Clara Mask.

  • HOW DO I WEAR CLARA?

The Clara filter case weighs just 5 ounces and has been designed to be worn where it is most comfortable for you and your work/activities on any given day.  Clara can be worn with an armband, on your waist with a belt clip, or in our micro-lightweight, breathable Clara harness to hold it securely on your back between your shoulder blades.  We do not recommend putting the Clara Respirator in a snug pocket, as it may restrict air intake.

  • WHY DOES THE CLARA MASK FIT BETTER THAN AN N95?

The Clara Mask is designed to fit under your chin rather than resting on it, so that when you talk or turn your head, the mask moves with you. The silicone gasket that goes against your face is soft and flexible, adjusting to the contours of your face. The top of the Clara mask should fit at the mid-point (not top) of your nose, which allows you to wear glasses, eye protection or loupes.

  • IS FIT TESTING REQUIRED FOR THE CLARA MASK ?

Clara masks come in extra-small, small medium, and large sizes.  We recommend fit testing.  That depends on where the mask will be used.  Health care facilities require fit testing for all respirators and have equipment available to perform fit tests.

  • IS THERE CARBON DIOXIDE BUILDUP INSIDE THE MASK ?

No, Clara’s patented cross-ventilation design helps ensure that you are always breathing clean, fresh air, not re-breathing your own exhaled breath.

  • HOW LONG DOES THE CLARA MASK LAST ?

If you wear Clara for work, we recommend replacing the Clara Mask after 1 year of use. The respirator will last considerably longer, up to 3 years or more. If you find that the mask is cracked or degraded in any way, or seems to leak, then we recommend replacement of the mask immediately.

  • IS THE BREATH EXHAUST VENT ON CLARA 1 ADJUSTABLE ?

Yes, you can aim it in any direction you want. It also has a fine wire mesh screen in it to minimize vapor.

  • WHAT IS THE MASK MADE OF ?

The Clara Mask is a polycarbonate facepiece with a silicone gasket around the edge.

  • CAN PEOPLE HEAR ME THROUGH THE CLARA MASK ?

Yes. ClaraVoice™ allows up to 80% of your spoken voice volume to travel safely through the mask.  The Clara mask was specifically designed to be clear so that your face and lips can be seen as well for greater personalization and communication.

  • WOULD I EVER WEAR A LEVEL 3 MASK OVER MY CLARA MASK ?

You do not need to wear a second mask with Clara, however there may be times when you may choose to protect the Clara Mask from a higher contamination procedure and wear a Level 3 surgical mask over it. The advantage is you can pull it down to speak with the patient and still be fully protected, and the patient will be as well.

  • WHEN WOULD I NEED MORE THAN ONE CLARA MASK ?

If you work in a healthcare environment like an emergency room or a dental practice, you would likely want a spare Clara mask that is clean and ready for immediate, alternative use. Clara Masks can be ordered separately.

  • CAN I HAVE A BEARD AND WEAR CLARA ?

Nope. Time to get stylish. Mustaches are okay, and maybe a soul patch or goatee.

  • WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE THE MASK ?

If you wear Clara daily for work, then we recommend replacement of the silicone gasket every six months as it comes in prolonged daily contact with your face and you want to ensure a good seal.  We recommend replacing the Clara mask each year.  If you have gained or lost weight, or had extensive dental work or any type of facial surgery, we recommend that you re-measure your face or re-fit test to determine if you still are the same Clara mask size. Whenever you order a replacement mask it is also recommended that you re-measure your face in advance.

  • CAN I REPLACE THE SILICONE GASKET ON THE MASK ?

Yes. The gaskets are replaceable and can be ordered from the Clara store. Be sure to order the correct gasket size to properly fit your polycarbonate mask facepiece.

  • CAN I WEAR MY GLASSES, PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR OR LOUPES WITH CLARA ?

Yes, the Clara mask was designed specifically to allow for eyewear, eye protection and/or loupes comfortably. The top of the Clara mask fits comfortably at the mid-point (not top) of your nose, which allows you to fit eyewear easily. And your eyewear will not fog because the Clara fit is airtight.

  • IS THE CLARA RESPIRATOR NOISY ?

No, there is no fan or noise with Clara.

  • DOES CLARA HAVE A FAN ?

No. Clara is naturally aspirated. You can easily draw breath on your own.

It is not like a PAPR device that forces the air through the hose with a fan and makes noise.

  • HOW HEAVY IS THE RESPIRATOR ?

The Clara Filter Case weighs less than 5 ounces with the filter inside, less than a typical smartphone.

  • WHAT MAKES IT A HIGH-GRADE HEPA FILTER ?

There are various levels of HEPA filters, from those found in vacuum cleaners and building filtration systems to medical-grade HEPA. The Clara HEPA filter is made in the USA of the finest grade material and allows for natural easy breathing to occur.  The HEPA filters 99.997% of particulates.

  • HOW LONG DO THE FILTERS LAST ?

With daily medical/dental professional use, Clara filters are recommended to be changed once a month.  The filters can be changed more frequently as needed and should be replaced immediately if they get wet.

  • HOW DO I BUY REPLACEMENT HEPA FILTERS ?

Clara high-grade HEPA filters are made in the USA and can be purchased on the BreatheClara.com store individually or in bulk or they can be delivered by subscription. And you can choose if you want filters for inhale or exhale respirators, as they are colored either blue or red.

  • DO THE HEPA FILTERS COME FROM CHINA ?

No. All Clara high-grade HEPA filters are made in the USA.

In addition to that, we are proud to tell you that Clara is also manufactured in the USA.

  • HOW DO I CLEAN MY CLARA ?

Clara was designed for simple wipe down sterilization on the front surfac using either Cavicide wipes or hypochlorous acid diluted to 200 parts per million, as needed.  You can also easily dis-assemble the Clara mask, remove the HEPA filter from the respirator and wash the components with disinfectant soap and hot water.  We have an infection control specialist on the Clara team and will have Instructions for Use (IFU) in the box as well as videos online to help assist you further.

  • ARE THE AIR LINES FLEXIBLE ?

Yes, they are lightweight and very flexible.  We provide hose clips for customized hose management depending on how you chose to wear Clara that works best for you.

  • DOES THE CLARA SYSTEM KILL COVID-19 ?

What the Clara Filtration System does precisely is trap the virus within the HEPA filter, which is known to block 99.97% of particulates. No mask can guarantee 100% protection, but the filtration and airtight seal of Clara is a very high standard of protection.

  • DOES THE CLARA SYSTEM KILL COVID-19 ?

What the Clara Respiration System does precisely is trap the virus within the HEPA filter, which is D-100 rated and offers 99.997% filtration – which is higher than N95 filtration.

  • IS CLARA FDA APPROVED?

Clara is currently registered with the FDA as a mask and available for immediate sale.  We are currently/actively in the NIOSH certification process as a respirator.  In addition to NIOSH certification, we are pursuing our FDA 510K Class II approval.  We will update our website and all Clara users by email as soon we possible.

  • HOW IS CLARA SUSTAINABLE?

Clara was specifically designed to be a superior, professional-grade and sustainable personal breathing device.  While the average worker would dispose of as many as 300-400 masks a year, With Clara, you can use our mask for a year or more (depending on frequency of use).  The silicone gasket can be replaced when needed, and the respirator housing will last up to 3-years or more.  Clara 1 will only use 12 filters. Clara 2 will only use 24 filters – vastly reducing the generation of disposable PPE biohazard waste. This dramatically reduces waste management with a much lower impact on the environment.  In addition, independent ROI calculations estimate Clara will save between 25%-40% the cost of disposable mask PPE per clinician on an annual basis.

  • HOW DOES CLARA SAVE MONEY ?

If you are using disposable N95 masks, the average annual cost per user is $1,200-$2,000 USD. The total cost of Clara, a year’s supply of HEPA filters and an additional mask would be less than $1,000 in the first year, and the total cost in each subsequent year would be less than $300, assuming monthly filter replacement and 1 annual mask replacement.  Independent ROI calculations estimate Clara will save between 25%-40% the cost of disposable mask PPE per clinician on an annual basis.
